EASY STREET CONVERSION: Sprites
are the simplest cars; cheap and easy to work on. It needs five
pieces to be street legal in Washington. Install stock
windscreen, which is included. Install windshield wipers, which
are cheap and readily available. Then hook up the headlights,
tail lights and horn. Horn not included.
You will not buy a better Sprite racing car, even if you
spent a lot more elsewhere. The car was
professionally built by an expert in Colorado who made every
imaginable upgrade. He races an airplane and sold
the car to raise money for his plane. It is time consuming and
super expensive to build one of these. Spare
yourself the expense, time and trouble and buy this finished
one.
It even has a custom made bracket welded to the front frame
that enables the entire front clip to lift and then pull away
from the front of the car. In other words, you can take
the just the hood alone off the regular way by removing the four
hood pins. Or, you can lift THE ENTIRE FRONT CLIP (the hood,
fenders, front shroud & headlights all as a unit, kind of like
an E-Type) straight up, so it's 90 degrees perpendicular, and
then you can slide the whole front clip six more inches FURTHER
AWAY to fully expose the whole engine bay and front suspension.
The leather wrapped race car steering wheel is really cool.
It detaches with an aircraft style splined shaft and retaining
clip. Whenever I pop the steering wheel off I feel like a
Formula One grand prix mechanic. Other guys don't have
this on their Sprite!
It is mechanically perfect with ZERO time on a rebuilt 1275
motor. It has every possible upgrade, such as MSD
ignition, lightened flywheel, nitrided crank, etc. etc. etc.
You saw the list already.
It has two hoods and two trunk lids. One set is
original and the other set is fiberglass for weight reduction.
The car has a beautiful slightly worn but shiny polished patina.
It has two windscreens. One is the 6" race screen in
the photos and the other is the original stock version for
street use if you choose to license the car and assemble it with
horn, headlights, tail lights, windshield, and wipers for the
street.
It would cost $20,000 or more to buy a rust free car and make
all the modifications this one has. You can own this car
for around half that. This car has NO RUST.
What would it cost you to strip an entire Sprite cockpit and
clad it with steel and aluminum and paint it light gray like
this one? Think, for example, about the custom fabricated roll
CAGE (not roll bar, but roll cage that goes all around the
entire cockpit to the engine bay) and how expensive that would
be to fabricate, install and paint it red to match the striping?
How much to paint the car (and spare hood and trunk lid) and
stripe it and number it? Look at the custom bracing
surrounding the engine bay and think how long that would take to
fabricate and how much it would cost you to do it.
It has brand new mini light wheels, and brand new tires.
It has the correct fuel cell. It has newly rebuilt
carburetors. The entire car has been professionally
freshened up by Brooklands British car in Tacoma.
The best part about the whole deal is that the car is
completely done. You don't have to spend any time doing
anything to it. It's ready to roll today.
Just buy it and enjoy it. Put it next to other Sprites and
watch them drool. Racers have spent twice the money I'm asking
and their car isn't any faster or better than this one. Plus
theirs does not have the magic tilt front clip. No one does.
It's a one of a kind special fabrication.
Why spend two years building one when you can buy a finished
one for such a low price? If not now, when are you going
to do it? How old will you be then? Just buy the
darn thing and start enjoying it. Quit waiting around!

I bought this roadster to drive while my MGA was
being restored. The MGA will be finished this year so I
don’t need this car any more. The 1967 Sprite is more
desirable than other years because of the 1275 motor and
roll up windows.
This is a great little Sprite and a blast to drive!
The car is solid and not rusty at all. I bought this car
from a guy who got it from his grandfather. The best
feature is that it’s an original unmolested example. No
one has taken it apart to restore it. It’s incredibly
rust free and solid. There are a few spots of surface
rust in the trunk, which could be repainted. The car was
stored for the last several years and overall is
slightly worn, but it’s great mechanically. It looks
healthy and solid.
BODY: Old English white and red
interior. Nice shiny repaint. I had an upholstery shop
install new Moss Motors red seat covers with white
piping over new foam. Interior is worn. Door furflex
should be replaced. Top has a couple of small tears.
Hood doesn’t fit properly, and must be wiggled side to
side to get it open, which is the worst flaw the car
has. Small dent, like a quarter, in rear bumper.
ENGINE: 1275 motor that runs great.
Newly rebuilt carburetors. I cleaned up the engine
bay and painted the engine the stock green.
GEARBOX: 4 speed manual. New
clutch job.
BRAKES: New brake job.
WHEELS AND TIRES: Wheels
were refinished with silver paint then clear coat. Tires
are newer Michelin radials. |
